Perspectives on Affective-Sexual Education Among Undergraduate Students in Galicia
Keywords:
Affective-sexual education, Gender perspective, Consent, Sexual violence, Sexual health, AffectivityAbstract
Background
Human sexuality influences the individual’s well-being and quality of life, encompassing biological, psychological, and sociocultural dimensions. In Spain, affective-sexual education is insufficient and lacks a specific subject. In Galicia, although programs and initiatives exist, the quality of this education has not been evidenced.
Objective
To gather information about the knowledge, practices, and opinions of undergraduate students in Galicia regarding affective-sexual education.
Methodology
An observational, descriptive, and cross-sectional study was conducted. The bibliographic search was carried out using Google Scholar, Google Books, Dialnet Plus, and PubMed; a non-validated questionnaire comprising 43 questions was created, obtaining 345 responses.
Results
The training received is deemed insufficient and unsatisfactory (92.4%), and there is a strong demand to create a subject on this topic (92%). Although healthcare professionals are preferred as sources of information (70%), the internet ranks first in practice (37.6%). An increase in unsatisfactory and unwanted relationships was reported; communication problems in relationships (58.8%) stand out as the main issue of deficient sexuality.
Conclusion
Previous training on sexuality mainly focuses on physiological aspects, but current demand in this area is predominantly socio-affective.
