Analysis of Cultural Factors as Determinants of Obesity in Adolescents from the Province of Lugo, According to Their Belonging to Rural or Urban Environments
First Prize Muralla de Lugo 2012
Keywords:
Cultural factor, Obesity, Adolescence, Rural Environment, Urban EnvironmentAbstract
This study aims to investigate and analyze to what extent cultural factors determine the prevalence of obesity in adolescents from the province of Lugo, comparing those who develop in rural settings with those in urban settings. The general objective is to promote healthy lifestyles in adolescence, hypothesizing that “adolescents who develop in rural environments have a lower risk of suffering from obesity.” After a thorough analysis of the theoretical foundations, as well as the background of the problem, the fieldwork, primarily qualitative in nature, confirms the proposed hypothesis, which does not imply that the extrapolation of results should not be conducted with the caution typical of qualitative research.
