Nursing Autonomy and Quality of Care: Analysis of Three Key Aspects.
Keywords:
Autonomy, Nursing, Gender, Social Image, SpecializationAbstract
Autonomy is identifi ed as a key factor for the nursing profession. However, there are numerous obstacles to its implementation. The main objective was to analyse the relationship between this and the quality of care. The work carried out was ethnographic research and the methodology chosen was qualitative. It consisted of a fi eld study accompanied by a literature review. Data were obtained and categorised into 3 themes: history and gender, specialisation and eventuality, and professional satisfaction. These results show the historical existence of a nursing linked to the female gender together with the tendency of a work dynamic based on casualisation. The conclusions linked the relationship between the autonomous practice of the profession and the quality of care. The involvement of the professionals themselves is essential to achieve a specialised nursing profession with critical judgement and self-leadership capacity.
