Abstract

The Health Care Research Unit (Investén-ISCIII) and the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO) launched the Best Practice Guidelines (BPG) Implementation Project in Spain in 2011, aiming to promote evidence-based practice. In 2018, EOXI Lugo, Cervo, and Monforte were selected to join the Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO) Program alongside seven other institutions within the Spanish National Health System, becoming part of a national network committed to systematically applying BPGs to improve healthcare delivery.

The BPGs, developed by RNAO since 1999, are rigorous tools offering evidence-based recommendations to optimize patient care and improve health outcomes. Their implementation in the Lugo, A Mariña, and Monforte de Lemos Health Area includes guidelines for stroke assessment, reducing diabetic foot complications, managing vascular access, and promoting breastfeeding. These initiatives reflect the health area's commitment to excellence, highlighting the critical role of nursing in integrating evidence-based practices and providing comprehensive patient assessments.

Collaboration with projects such as Investén-ISCIII and the BPSO initiative has helped establish a patient-centered, interdisciplinary care model grounded in the latest research. The recent redesignation of the health area as a Best Practice Spotlight Organization reaffirms this commitment, emphasizing the importance of continuous education and innovation to transform the healthcare system.
