Abstract

The external ventricular drain (EVD) is essentially a catheter connected to a collecting system. It is typically implanted in the frontal horn of the non-dominant lateral ventricle, serving several objectives. Among these, the control of intracranial pressure, the administration of medication, or the drainage of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) or intraventricular blood are notable. It is necessary to standardize nursing care for patients with such catheters to provide quality care and avoid potential complications.
