Abstract

A seizure is an excessive synchronous discharge of a neuronal group that, depending on its location, manifests with motor, sensory, autonomic, or psychic symptoms, with or without loss of consciousness. It is a seizure associated with a febrile illness, in the absence of central nervous system infection or electrolyte imbalance, in children over one month of age without a history of previous afebrile seizures. The age range in which it occurs is between 6 months and 5 years, with the highest frequency occurring between 18 months and 2 years. It has a higher incidence in males.
