Abstract

Psychomotor agitation constitutes one of the situations or a syndrome, as defined by some authors, in response to which the nurse must act in various healthcare services. Contrary to what might initially be assumed, it is not specific to psychiatric units; rather, episodes of agitation or violence perpetrated by patients occur more frequently in medical-surgical areas and emergency departments, both in hospitals and in Primary Care. Therefore, aside from the incidence and established protocols, we consider it important to provide a reminder that aids in knowledge, offers guidelines and procedures that serve as a guide for acting coherently, effectively, and swiftly, thereby improving the quality of nursing interventions while keeping in mind that it does not replace the individual care plan.
