Abstract

uan is a 12-year-old boy who presents to the pediatrician with his mother due to significant fatigue. He has experienced a 2-kilogram weight loss over the past month, despite an increased appetite (polyphagia). He reports significant fluid intake due to intense thirst (polydipsia) and frequent urination both day and night (polyuria). The pediatrician refers him for admission to the Pediatric Unit for an evaluation of new-onset diabetes.
