Abstract

Objectives: To determine the incidence of major adverse cardiac events in the intervention group compared to the control group participants one year after Acute Coronary Syndrome.
Methodology: Controlled clinical trial with individual randomization, open-label, and multicenter. Cardiology services of CHUAC and CHUF. A total sample of 111 patients who experienced Acute Coronary Syndrome was analyzed, with 54 participants in the intervention group and 57 in the control group. The intervention group was included in a nurse-led secondary prevention program in addition to the standard secondary prevention follow-up, while the control group participants only received standard secondary prevention follow-up. Significant value of p < 0.05.
Results: The incidence of major adverse cardiac events in the intervention group is 9.3% compared to 26.3% in the control group (p = 0.019).
Discussion: It is shown that implementing this program into routine clinical practice would improve the prognosis of this patient profile, and therefore the entire population would benefit from the secondary prevention program proposed in this study.
Conclusions: The secondary prevention program proposed in this study has reduced the incidence of major adverse cardiac events.
