On 29 May 2026, the Illustrious Official College of Nursing of Lugo presented the “Muralla de Lugo” Scientific Awards during the 2026 Tribute to Professional Excellence ceremony. These awards, subsidised by the General Nursing Council, aim to recognise nursing research activity, encourage participation in scientific projects and promote the incorporation of scientific evidence into clinical practice.
In this edition, the jury, composed of representatives from the Official College of Nursing of Lugo, the University School of Nursing and the healthcare areas of the province, evaluated the submissions anonymously using pseudonyms, ensuring an objective and independent assessment process. The awards were granted in the categories of Scientific Article and Scientific Category, in addition to an honourable mention for students of the University School of Nursing.
The Best Scientific Article Award was presented to Cristian Martín Vázquez, under the pseudonym “RAIZ”, for the study “Development and Validation of the Contraception Nursing Knowledge Questionnaire (CNKQ-15) to Assess Contraception Knowledge in Nursing”. The study developed and validated a reliable tool to assess contraception knowledge among nursing professionals and identify training needs.
The First Prize in the Scientific Category was awarded to Alba Ben García for the study “Comparative Study of Knowledge in Basic Life Support”, which analysed knowledge levels, training and self-perception regarding basic life support among the general population and professional groups. The study concluded that further training is needed, especially among the non-healthcare population.
The Second Prize in the Scientific Category went to Sandra García Rivera, Manuel Antonio González Taboada and María Candelaria Fraga González, under the pseudonym “SGR”, for the project “Si Lían No Te Líes”, a smoking prevention intervention for adolescents using a comprehensive and intersectoral strategy. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ knowledge of healthy lifestyles and prevention of harmful behaviours.
The “Muralla de Lugo” Scientific Awards strengthen the commitment of the Official College of Nursing of Lugo to research, innovation and continuous improvement in care, while giving visibility to the scientific efforts of the nursing profession.
